Watching Us Play
If you don't have much experience with ultimate, pictures and articles can only describe so much. The best thing to do is to come and watch us play. Ultimate is a great sport to watch: the action is mostly continuous, and big exciting plays are frequent. Plus, you can watch your son dominate chumps from other universities. As a bonus, we'd love the support. Here are some tips on making your experince a good one.
What to expect
- We'll play 3-4 games per day. So you'll see plenty of action for as long as you want to watch.
- There will be breaks between games and occasional byes so you should have plenty of time to hang out with your kid or grab lunch.
- We have a fairly big team so your son may be playing only every 3rd point or so (which is very commmon in a game as tiring as ultimate). You can use the time when your son is not playing to have him explain new aspects of the game as the rest of the points are being played. There are many offense and defensive strategies that we employ, and the game is more fun to watch once you've learned a few of them.
What to bring for yourself
- A folding chair.
- A hat, sunblock and possibly sunglasses.
- A Cal sweatshirt to wear or other Cal/UGMO paraphernalia if you have it.
- A camera or video camera (for your own memories, and also because we have scant documentation of ourselves).
- Food and drink. The tourney will have, at best, bagels and bananas.
- Your voice, for supporting the team and heckling your son.
- If you're feeling generous, ice/gatorade/assorted snacks for the team.
